According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average American produces 4.4 pounds of trash a day, and the United States as a whole produces more than 250 million tons of trash a year. Unfortunately, only about 35 percent of that currently gets recycled.
Today is America Recycles Day and we couldn’t feel more proud to be a part of the global movement to raise awareness and take action. While the day is hosted by Keep America Beautiful and aimed at promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States, local communities are what give this day meaning. Whether its rallying local governments, hosting or attending awareness-raising events at a nearby college or having conversation with a neighbor about how to reduce landfill waste, thousands of activities are taking place today to recognize the need to improve our nation’s environmental impact.
At The Refinishing Touch, recycling is the crux of what we do. Through our furniture asset management services we provide businesses in the government, higher education and hospitality industries alternatives to purchasing new goods. Whether it’s through our environmentally safe, on-site furniture refinishing process, our Touch Textiles upholstery line, or granite resurfacing, we keep the environment in mind every step of the way. We even have our own Television Recycling Program in conjunction with our Armoire Conversion Program as a means of preventing the land disposal of toxic metals in electronic waste (e-waste).
At the end of the day, recycling furniture puts less of a burden on our precious forest, and it’s a win-win for companies who are looking to save money when compared to purchasing new furniture.
